County seeks mural artists

Tacoma, WALocal News

Pierce County is set to launch an innovative pilot mural program aiming to transform areas frequently targeted by graffiti into vibrant public art installations. This initiative invites artists to submit applications for three specific mural opportunities, which will take place in the Spanaway-Parkland community and Waller. With budgets ranging from $10,000 to $75,000, the funding for these projects comes from a unique appropriation by the Pierce County Council and the County’s 1% for the Arts Program. The program's goals include enhancing community engagement, fostering civic pride, and promoting respect for shared environments, ultimately leading to safer neighborhoods. Artists interested in participating must be eligible to work in the United States and submit a professional portfolio by the March 31, 2025, deadline.

The initiative reflects the county's commitment to increasing access to the arts for all residents and celebrating cultural expression through publicly held artwork. For more details and submission requirements, interested artists can visit the Pierce County Arts Commission’s website. This program not only beautifies the community but also serves as a platform for local artists to showcase their talents and contribute meaningfully to their neighborhoods.
