R. C. “Swede” Johnson, a notable civic leader in Snohomish, passed away on March 11 at the age of 81, according to family statements. His long-standing commitment to the community was evident through his decade-long service on the Snohomish School Board during the 1980s and ‘90s. Johnson later served a term on the County Council and was a member of the Snohomish City Council from 2006 to 2010, representing the conservative faction.
In his youth, he was a standout multi-sport athlete for the Snohomish Panthers, with a particular passion for baseball. Beyond sports, he played a critical role in the development of Kla Ha Ya Park and officiated basketball games for 25 years. His contributions to local events were recognized when he chaired the Kla Ha Ya Days in 1978. Professionally, Johnson worked as a PUD engineer and later transitioned to a career as a car salesman. The community will honor his memory at a memorial service on May 31 at CrossView Church.
