Clearview community meets with concern of possible 2nd marijuana shop on Highway 9
In Clearview, a recent community meeting drew over 50 residents concerned about the potential opening of Hangar 420, a second marijuana retailer on Highway 9. The proposed location, just 1. 1 miles from the existing shop The Kushery, violates the county's new zoning requirement for a 10,000-foot buffer between marijuana businesses in rural areas. Owner Patrick Gahan argued that he has not breached any regulations, asserting that his location complies with the previous 2,500-foot zoning rules. However, county officials clarified that opening Hangar 420 would result in code violations and possible legal action.
The meeting included County Council members and highlighted community fears of transforming Highway 9 into a heavily commercialized area. Residents recalled previous struggles to maintain Clearview's character, successfully fighting against unrestricted marijuana shops over a decade ago. Councilman Jared Mead emphasized the intent behind the new regulations was to limit marijuana shops in the area. The outcome of this situation remains uncertain as Gahan contemplates his next steps.
