Reading with Rover
The "Reading with Rover" program at the Everett Public Library is designed to help children improve their reading skills by reading to therapy dogs in a relaxed and supportive environment. On December 28, 2024, Barli, a 4-year-old Bernese Mountain Dog, accompanied by her owner Joya Foster, participated in the event, assisting young readers like 9-year-old Alex. This particular outing marked a significant milestone for Barli and Joya, exemplifying the growing bond between the duo as they engage with children. The program, held on the fourth Saturday of each month from 1 to 2 p. m.
, has become a cherished community event, attracting a line of children eager to read. The interaction between the children and dogs not only helps in enhancing literacy but also nurtures emotional and social development. Participants often express joy and excitement, contributing to a positive learning atmosphere. Such community-driven initiatives are crucial for fostering a love of reading among kids and providing them with emotional support through animal companionship. The success of "Reading with Rover" highlights the importance of innovative approaches in promoting literacy and community engagement.
