Emily Stone sworn in as newest member of Gig Harbor City Council
Emily Stone has officially joined the Gig Harbor City Council, taking over the position left vacant by Brenda Lykins' resignation. At 31, Stone brings extensive experience as a senior policy advisor at the state Department of Commerce, where she has liaised with various government entities on community services and public safety. In her address to the council, she highlighted her family's long-standing ties to Gig Harbor and expressed her commitment to preserving the city’s unique character amidst growth. One of her primary focuses will be addressing the pressing issue of affordable housing for current residents, particularly retirees on fixed incomes. Stone is also keen on promoting economic development and tourism, especially as Gig Harbor prepares for the influx of visitors during the 2026 men's World Cup in Seattle.
Her dedication to community service is reflected in her past work as a social worker and her role as a volunteer board member at the Sexual Violence Law Center. Emphasizing the importance of family, Stone has made it clear that her governance will prioritize community needs and voices. With her background and personal investment in Gig Harbor, Stone is poised to make a significant impact on local governance.
