Driver hits light pole while doing doughnuts in Gig Harbor, gas station loses power

Gig Harbor, WALocal News

On January 21, Gig Harbor Police responded to a call about a red Ford Mustang that collided with a power pole while the driver was doing doughnuts in the road, causing a power outage at a nearby gas station. Witnesses described the driver’s reckless behavior, and police arrested the 32-year-old man on suspicion of DUI after locating the damaged vehicle nearby. The driver claimed something was wrong with his car, but the officer requested a review for hit-and-run property damage charges based on the evidence. In a separate incident on January 18, a police officer discovered a stolen U-Haul parked at a Marshalls store and observed suspicious activity inside the van. When the U-Haul fled the scene, a pursuit commenced, during which the vehicle was seen changing lanes without signaling and running a red light, reaching speeds of 60 mph in a 30 mph zone.

The chase was ultimately halted due to safety concerns after the U-Haul knocked over construction cones in an active work zone. The driver of the U-Haul had a history of prior contacts with law enforcement, including multiple warrants for her arrest. Both cases highlight ongoing issues with reckless driving and vehicle theft in the Gig Harbor area, prompting police action and community concern.
