Google asked 15 North American teachers to explore AI. Three are from Pierce County
Three educators from the Peninsula School District in Washington have been awarded a Google fellowship to explore the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) in education, among 15 selected from North America. Their participation culminated in a presentation to Google employees in New York, where they showcased innovative projects that utilize AI to enhance learning experiences. Teachers Heather Whyte, Dave Stitt, and Kayla Frank are focusing on using AI tools to provide personalized feedback and streamline administrative tasks, addressing concerns about the potential for cheating and over-reliance on technology. The district's proactive approach is also reflected in its recognition for innovative technology integration, receiving the 2025 Innovative Technology Integration Award. This initiative highlights the importance of teaching students how to ethically use AI, preparing them for a future where such technology is prevalent in the workforce.
Educators are encouraged to engage students in conversations about the responsible use of AI, fostering an environment of learning rather than fear. The Peninsula School District's commitment to integrating technology in a structured manner positions it as a leader in educational innovation. As AI continues to evolve, these educators are paving the way for a new generation of learners equipped with essential digital skills.
