Woodinville Awarded $5 million in Federal Funds for Eastrail Corridor
The City of Woodinville has announced the receipt of a $5 million federal RAISE grant aimed at enhancing the Eastrail Corridor through the planning and design of a new rail-to-trail project. This vital 1. 7-mile segment will connect to the existing Sammamish River Trail, forming part of a comprehensive 42-mile regional trail system that spans the eastside from Renton to Woodinville. Local stakeholders, including Congresswoman Suzan DelBene and Senators Patty Murray and Maria Cantwell, played essential roles in advocating for this funding, demonstrating strong bipartisan support for the initiative. Mayor Mike Millman highlighted the project's potential to improve traffic flow in Downtown Woodinville and increase non-motorized transportation options.
The City has been working closely with Eastrail Partners, King County Parks, and other local entities to ensure the project's success. Furthermore, the grant contributes to a larger $25 million funding allocation for King County to address infrastructure gaps, including a critical crossing over Interstate 90. As the project progresses, residents have begun to notice the removal of the abandoned railroad, paving the way for the new trail. Overall, the Eastrail project is poised to transform Downtown Woodinville into a recreational hub, enriching the community's quality of life.
