Ice causes several crashes on I-405 in Bellevue, Renton
On Tuesday morning, icy road conditions on I-405 between Renton and Bellevue resulted in multiple accidents, with authorities reporting at least 11 crashes. A particularly severe incident involved a fiery crash that caused significant traffic disruptions throughout the day. The Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) confirmed that their crews had been working continuously to treat and plow the roads ahead of the winter weather event. WSDOT representative Aisha Dayal emphasized the importance of safe driving practices, urging drivers to adapt their behavior to the slippery conditions. This includes reducing speed in icy areas and allowing extra space between vehicles.
Additionally, Dayal advised caution around snowplow crews actively working to clear the roads. Troopers noted that the weather contributed to the accidents, including one incident where a vehicle cut off a semi-truck driver, exacerbating the situation. With winter weather affecting local roadways, community cooperation is essential for ensuring safety during these challenging conditions.
