West Hollywood Declares November as Holodomor Memorial Month
The City of West Hollywood has taken an important step in recognizing the tragedy of the Holodomor by declaring November as Holodomor Memorial Month. Adopted by the City Council in March 2024, this resolution honors the memory of millions of Ukrainians who suffered and died due to the famine orchestrated by the Stalin-led Soviet government. It aims to raise awareness of the systematic human rights violations that occurred during this dark period, emphasizing the consequences of forced collectivization and grain confiscation policies. The resolution calls for the dissemination of factual information about the Holodomor to educate the public on this man-made tragedy. Additionally, the California State Legislature passed a similar resolution earlier in 2024, reflecting a growing recognition of this historical event.
The City’s Community & Legislative Affairs Division will share the resolution with various levels of government to promote awareness further. For more information, residents can contact the Community & Legislative Affairs Manager and are encouraged to stay informed through social media and official City channels.
