Update Fatal Multi-Vehicle Crash Investigation

The Tampa Police Department is currently investigating a devastating multi-vehicle crash that occurred at the intersection of N 50th St and E Dr. Martin Luther King Jr Blvd, resulting in two fatalities. Just before 1:00 p. m. , a dump truck driver, who failed to notice stopped traffic, attempted to change lanes, colliding with a minivan driven by an adult male.

The driver of the minivan was later pronounced dead at a local hospital, while two juvenile passengers were hospitalized, one with serious injuries. The truck also struck a young adult who had exited another vehicle, leading to his death at the scene. In total, three additional vehicles were damaged in the crash, with two drivers suffering non-life-threatening injuries. Chief Lee Bercaw highlighted the tragedy as a reminder of the importance of safe driving practices. The dump truck driver showed no signs of impairment and has been issued a summons for careless driving resulting in death.

The investigation is ongoing, with more information expected to be released in the future.
