Rainiers come up short in 3-1 loss to Sacramento

Tacoma, WALocal News

The Tacoma Rainiers' struggle continued as they fell 3-1 to the Sacramento River Cats on Friday at Cheney Stadium, marking their sixth straight loss. Starter Jhonathan Diaz showed resilience, tossing two scoreless innings and striking out key batters, but the team faltered in the offensive department. Sacramento took control in the third inning with two runs driven in by David Villar after a series of strategic plays. Rhylan Thomas provided a glimmer of hope for the Rainiers with a solo home run in the fifth, his first of the season, but the team could not sustain the momentum. Despite a strong pitching performance from Drew Pomeranz and Diaz, the Rainiers struggled to convert their chances.

Michael Mariot made his season debut, allowing one run in his two innings of work. The defeat is particularly disheartening as it marks the first time since May 30, 2024, that the Rainiers lost a game while allowing only one earned run. Looking ahead, the Rainiers will face the River Cats again on April 12, seeking to end their losing streak.
