City activates cooling centers Oct. 1-3

The City of Sacramento is responding to a heat advisory issued by the National Weather Service by activating cooling centers from October 1-3, 2024, ensuring residents have access to relief from high temperatures. The Outreach and Engagement Center (OEC) will operate from 11 a. m. on October 1 until 8 a. m.

on October 3, accommodating pets and offering personal storage for belongings. Meanwhile, the Sam & Bonnie Pannell Community Center will be open from 8 a. m. to 8 p. m.

on October 1 and 2, but it will not allow pets and has restrictions on personal item storage. Both locations will provide essential services, including air-conditioning, free water, and charging stations for electronic devices. In a collaborative effort, Regional Transit will offer no-cost transportation to these cooling centers, enhancing accessibility for residents. Those in need of further assistance can connect with outreach workers by calling 311. The City is committed to monitoring weather conditions and may extend the operations of these centers as necessary.
