City of Sacramento to unveil Hanami public art at this waterfront park Oct. 23
Sacramento's Office of Arts and Culture is inviting the public to the unveiling of _Hanami_, a new public art installation, on October 23 from 5:30 to 7 p. m. at Robert T. Matsui Waterfront Park. Created by local artists Jennifer Madden and Jeffrey Reed of Reed + Madden Design, this installation draws from the Japanese tradition of hanami, celebrating the ephemeral beauty of cherry blossoms.
Art in Public Places Manager Donald Gensler emphasizes the piece as a reminder of the fleeting moments shared within the community. The event will feature a taiko drum performance and presentations from local leaders and the artists themselves, providing attendees an opportunity to engage and inquire about the artwork. The Hanami Line park is designed to include cherry blossom trees and ample seating, creating a vibrant space for community gatherings year-round. This initiative is supported by various organizations, including the Sacramento Tree Foundation and UC Davis Health. Registration is required for this free event, which aims to enhance Sacramento's cultural landscape and foster community connection.
Join the celebration of art and nature on this special evening.
