Grand Opening of Wong Center New Affordable Senior Housing Community in Sacramento
On October 18, 2024, Sacramento celebrated the grand opening of the Wong Center, a new senior housing community located in the historic Railyards area. This development includes 150 units specifically designed for seniors aged 55 and older, targeting those within low to very low-income brackets. Mayor Darrell Steinberg emphasized the project's significance as a collaborative effort among Mutual Housing California, the Wong Center Board of Directors, and the city’s commitment to affordable housing. Funding sources included $3. 5 million from the City of Sacramento, $25 million from the State through the Low-Income Housing Tax Credits program, and contributions from local foundations.
The Wong Center is equipped with various amenities, including EV charging stations and a community garden, aimed at fostering a supportive environment for residents. Additionally, on-site services provided by Mutual Housing include health and wellness programs and financial education, further enhancing community engagement. The project not only meets housing demands but also strengthens social connections among seniors in the area. As it opens its doors, the Wong Center is now accepting applications for waiting lists, reflecting a growing need for affordable housing solutions in Sacramento.
