Farishta Ahrary appointed as new City Auditor by Sacramento City Council
The Sacramento City Council has officially appointed Farishta Ahrary as the new City Auditor, making her the first woman to assume this role in the city’s history. Ahrary has been serving as the Interim City Auditor since early 2024 and brings over ten years of experience within the Auditor's office, where she started as an entry-level auditor in 2013. Mayor Darrell Steinberg praised Ahrary's qualifications and the unanimous support from council members, highlighting her potential contributions to the city. She holds multiple certifications, including certified public accountant and certified fraud examiner, and has received several awards from the Association of Local Government Auditors. Ahrary aims to enhance the city's operations by providing insightful analysis and recommendations through audits and financial assessments.
Her previous work includes auditing school districts across Northern California at a local CPA firm. Ahrary, who immigrated to the Sacramento area from Afghanistan in 1992, holds a Master of Science in Accounting and a Bachelor of Arts in Economics. In her personal time, she enjoys baking and playing board games with her family.
