What do cooler temperatures mean for your lawn? Fall and winter watering schedule starts Nov. 1

Sacremento, CALocal News

As temperatures drop in Sacramento, the Utilities staff is urging residents and businesses to adapt their watering habits for landscaping. Beginning November 1 and lasting until February 28, customers are permitted to use sprinklers only once per week on Saturdays or Sundays. The City has also enforced a ban on watering during rain and for 48 hours after, to conserve water. William Granger, the City’s water conservation coordinator, advises that many homeowners might want to turn off their automatic sprinklers altogether, given that grass requires much less water in colder months. This change marks a significant transition from the previous spring and summer watering schedule, which allowed for watering up to twice a week.

Granger emphasizes that overwatering remains strictly prohibited year-round, including any water runoff that may reach sidewalks and gutters. For more detailed information, residents can visit the City’s water conservation website. These measures are part of Sacramento's ongoing efforts to promote water conservation and responsible landscaping practices.
