Community Celebrates Alley Transformation in North Sacramento
The City of Sacramento recently marked the opening of the Dixieanne Neighborhood Clean & Green Alleys project, which has revitalized five alleys in Old North Sacramento into vibrant public spaces. This initiative, led by the Department of Public Works in partnership with local artists and community members, received funding through Clean California grants. Attendees at the unveiling celebrated the new custom paver art and uniquely designed bollards that inject character into the alleys. Fedolia “Sparky” Harris, the project manager, emphasized the project's significance, stating it exemplifies what can be achieved when communities unite to reclaim neglected public areas. The project not only enhances functionality but also incorporates beautification efforts, including tree plantings, new residential fencing, and stormwater management improvements through permeable pavers.
District 2 Councilmember Shoun Thao contributed to the festive atmosphere by distributing soccer balls to attendees during the celebration. This transformation showcases the potential for sustainable urban development while fostering community engagement and pride.
