City, partners break ground on 196 mixed-income housing units on Stockton Boulevard near Aggie Square
Sacramento's Stockton Gateway project represents a significant advancement in the city’s efforts to provide affordable housing, with 196 mixed-income units slated for construction near UC Davis Aggie Square. The initiative, celebrated at a recent groundbreaking event, is supported by a $15 million loan from the City and is projected to be completed by late 2026. Mayor Darrell Steinberg remarked on the project’s role in fostering inclusive economic development and improving the quality of life for all neighborhoods. Vice Mayor Caity Maple noted the project's importance for a community that has faced historical underinvestment, reflecting a commitment to equity and opportunity. The development will be split between two sites, with the 3400 Stockton site offering 131 units for renters earning 80% to 120% of the area median income, and the 3401 Stockton site providing 65 units for those earning 60% to 80%.
This initiative is expected to drive additional private investments along Stockton Boulevard, aligning with the city’s objectives to diversify housing options. The Gateway project is crucial not only for addressing the housing crisis but also for ensuring that local residents can remain in their neighborhoods. Overall, this project marks a pivotal moment in the revitalization of the Stockton Boulevard area.
