Streets temporarily closing Jan. 20 for MLK Day events in two Sacramento areas

Sacramento is set to celebrate Martin Luther King Jr. Day on January 20 with multiple community events, including marches that will necessitate street closures for safety. The "March for the Dream" begins at 8:30 a. m. at the Oak Park Community Center, where community leaders and residents will gather for a ceremonial kickoff.

The official march is scheduled to start at 9:15 a. m. at Sacramento City College, with participants meeting between the college and Hughes Stadium. Concurrently, the North Sacramento/Del Paso Heights event will kick off at Grant Union High School at 8 a. m.

, with the march starting at 10 a. m. and concluding with a resource fair designed to address pressing community issues. Free light rail services will be available for participants parking at designated areas, provided they present a flyer to SacRT staff. These events not only honor King's legacy but also foster community engagement and discussions on critical topics such as housing, youth development, and wellness.
