JBLM doctor admitted to sexually abusing 3 dozen military patients. Heres his sentence
Maj. Michael Stockin, a 39-year-old doctor at Joint Base Lewis-McChord, was sentenced on January 15, 2025, to more than 13 years in prison after pleading guilty to 36 counts of sexual abuse against military patients. The abuse, which took place from 2019 to 2022, involved inappropriate requests for patients to undress and indecent viewing of their private areas. The military judge, Col. Larry Babin, imposed the maximum sentence under a plea deal that could have allowed for significantly less time.
During the court-martial, 22 victims detailed the trauma they suffered due to Stockin's actions, highlighting the long-lasting effects of the abuse. The case has raised broader concerns about the Army's investigation practices, particularly regarding whether Stockin's previous assignments in other locations were fully scrutinized. Advocates for the victims are pursuing further accountability from the Army for allowing such abuses to occur. Stockin is also set to lose his medical license and will be required to register as a sex offender upon his release. The case sheds light on critical issues surrounding trust and safety in military healthcare settings.
