Busy meeting for a 3-person town council
During the La Conner Town Council meeting on November 26, the session nearly faced cancellation due to a lack of quorum, but Councilmember Annie Taylor arrived just in time to proceed. Assistant Planner Ajah Eills reported on the south end revitalization plan, which seeks to establish land use guidelines for a four-acre area adjacent to the waterfront, noting that an online survey yielded 104 responses from residents. The council plans to revisit the project at upcoming meetings, indicating a commitment to engaging the community in the planning process. Furthermore, discussions around a draft Community Emergency Management Plan highlighted its dynamic nature, with plans for continuous updates as needs arise. The stalled 306 Center Street multi-family project remains under scrutiny, particularly regarding the elevator's specifications to ensure compliance with safety regulations.
The council also approved service agreements that reflect a 13% increase in the budget for the sheriff's office due to rising labor costs. With additional patrols noted by Councilmember Rick Dole, the meeting underscored the importance of public safety in La Conner. As the town prepares for future events, including July 4 celebrations, the council remains focused on balancing community needs with fiscal responsibility.
