CA wildfires Dozens of animals from Los Angeles shelters land in Seattle

Issaquah, WALocal News

In a heartwarming response to the ongoing wildfires in California, Seattle Humane has successfully transported 39 dogs and 18 cats from Los Angeles shelters that are struggling with overcrowding. This initiative, in partnership with Paws for Life K9 Rescue and Wings of Rescue, highlights the collaborative spirit of animal welfare organizations during crises. Alison Wasmer, the animal care director at Seattle Humane, shared her excitement about providing relief to these animals and the shelters that care for them. The rescued pets had been waiting for homes for weeks and even months prior to the wildfires, which intensified the urgency of their situation. Upon arrival in Seattle, the animals will be checked into the organization’s system, with some available for adoption as early as Tuesday.

This effort not only eases the burden on California shelters but also aims to connect these animals with new families in Seattle. The initiative underscores the importance of animal rescue and adoption, particularly during natural disasters. It serves as a reminder of how communities can come together to support vulnerable animals in times of need.
