DNR Resources Helping Partner Agencies Fight Wildfire Across Multiple States
The Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is currently mobilizing personnel and equipment to combat wildfires in several states, including Texas, Oklahoma, Missouri, Arkansas, North Carolina, and South Carolina. As wildfire activity escalates across the nation, the DNR emphasizes the importance of maintaining interagency partnerships, which are crucial for effective wildfire management. George Geissler, DNR’s State Forester, highlights that this cooperative effort ensures that resources are available when Washington faces its peak wildfire months in July and August. More than 55 agency personnel, including firefighters and strike teams, are actively engaged in these out-of-state assignments. According to the National Interagency Fire Center, 28 large uncontained fires are currently raging, with 22 located in the southern U.
S. The 2025 wildfire season is already alarming, having seen over 14,800 wildfires that have scorched around 700,000 acres—far exceeding the 10-year averages.
