WDFW approves new hunting season rules
The Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW) has announced the approval of most proposed changes to hunting regulations for the upcoming 2025-2026 seasons. However, a notable exception is the rejection of a proposal that would have introduced multi-season deer and elk tags for members of federally recognized tribes. This decision was made after careful consideration of public comments and tribal engagement. Director Kelly Susewind has greenlit updated regulations for deer, elk, and waterfowl hunting seasons, as well as special permit opportunities for species such as moose and bighorn sheep. Furthermore, the approved regulations include clarifications on special closures, firearm restriction areas, and deer management zones.
These regulations will take effect in 2025 and will be included in the Department’s annual hunting regulations. As WDFW continues its rule-making process for cougar and black bear hunting, the Commission is set to make further decisions in April. This extensive public feedback process underscores the importance of community input in shaping hunting regulations in Washington.
