Animal Control Moves from Codes to Yakima Police Department

As of 2023, the Yakima City Council has officially transferred Animal Control operations to the Yakima Police Department, a move aimed at enhancing local animal management services. Residents are now encouraged to reach out to the Yakima County Sheriff Department for any animal-related calls outside the city limits, ensuring that all areas receive appropriate attention. Starting May 7, 2023, dog licensing will also be managed by the Code Administration, further consolidating animal-related services under local governance. The Yakima Police Department has established a dedicated contact number, (509) 575-6200, for residents needing immediate assistance with animal control issues.
