West Hollywood Hosts Installation to Promote Equal Rights Amendment Awareness
The City of West Hollywood is co-sponsoring a significant temporary installation at the West Hollywood Library to raise awareness about the Equal Rights Amendment (ERA). This installation is part of the EQUAL MEANS EQUAL Final Impact campaign and is inspired by the Inside Out Project created by French artist JR. Featuring compelling black-and-white portraits by artists Sonja Nuttall and Kat Benzova, the installation draws community attention to the urgent need for the ERA's publication. The campaign highlights the ongoing struggles for civil and human rights affecting women and the LGBTQ community. The ERA was first proposed in 1923 but has faced numerous challenges, including deadlines that supporters believed to be valid.
Recently, three states have ratified the amendment, but it remains unpublished in the Constitution as of 2022. The installation will be available for public viewing until December 2024, following successful events in other cities. The campaign has attracted support from celebrities and volunteers, underscoring the importance of mobilizing public awareness around this critical issue.
