Celebrating 40 Years of West Hollywood Cityhood
The City of West Hollywood marked its 40th anniversary of cityhood on November 21, 2024, with the **West Hollywood Day & State of the Community Celebration**. This event celebrated the city’s history, vibrant community spirit, and civic pride. Photos from the celebration will soon be available on the city's official Flickr page, and an end-to-end recording will be produced for WeHoTV. West Hollywood's inception as a city in 1984 was the result of a unique coalition of LGBT activists, seniors, and renters advocating for progressive policies and tenant rights. Over the past four decades, the city has emerged as a leader in various social movements, including HIV/AIDS advocacy and civil rights.
It is also recognized for its commitment to fiscal responsibility and innovative urban planning. Additionally, West Hollywood prioritizes wellness programs, community arts, and social services to enhance residents' lives. As the city celebrates its legacy, it remains dedicated to progress and inclusivity for all its residents.
