West Hollywood Launches 'Safer WeHo' Pilot Program for Enhanced Public Safety
The City of West Hollywood has announced the 'Safer WeHo' pilot program, a collaborative effort with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department aimed at enhancing public safety through innovative technology. The program will unfold over a year, starting with a three-month outreach phase to engage the community. Key components include the Drone as First Responder (DFR), which provides real-time views of incidents to help de-escalate potentially dangerous situations, and over 50 strategically placed fixed real-time cameras to support crime resolution and improve situational awareness for first responders. A Real-Time Watch Center will be set up at the West Hollywood Sheriff’s Station to monitor live feeds from these technologies. To raise awareness, the city will use various communication channels, including mailed information, PSAs, and social media outreach.
The Community Safety Department oversees this initiative, which aims to reduce crime and enhance the safety and quality of life for residents and visitors. More information is available on the city’s website, and community members are encouraged to engage with the program.
