West Hollywood Launches 'Safer WeHo' Public Safety Technology Initiative
The City of West Hollywood is launching the **Safer WeHo** pilot program to enhance public safety through innovative technologies. This initiative includes a **Drone as First Responder (DFR)** system that provides real-time views of incidents, aiding in de-escalation efforts. Additionally, over 50 fixed real-time cameras will be deployed to assist law enforcement in crime resolution and emergency response. A real-time watch center will be established at the West Hollywood Sheriff’s Station to monitor feeds from both drones and cameras. Community engagement is crucial, with a three-month outreach period leading to two town hall meetings in December 2024 aimed at informing residents and gathering feedback before the program's rollout in early 2025.
The City is committed to transparency, ensuring that DFR technology will not be used for surveillance purposes. The **Safer WeHo** program represents a proactive approach to enhancing community safety and security in West Hollywood.
