West Hollywood Commemorates World AIDS Day with Events and Programming
The City of West Hollywood will honor World AIDS Day with a series of events on December 1 and December 4, 2024. The observance includes a broadcast of the AIDSWatch digital memorial scroll on WeHoTV, fostering community engagement. Established in 1988, World AIDS Day unites people globally to support those living with HIV/AIDS and memorialize those who have died from the disease. This year's theme, 'Take the rights path: My health, my right! ' emphasizes health rights and the need to address healthcare inequalities.
A panel of the AIDS Memorial Quilt will be showcased in the Council Chambers, representing the personal stories behind the statistics of those lost to AIDS. The Quilt consists of around 50,000 panels dedicated to over 110,000 individuals. Additionally, the Alliance for Housing & Healing will lay flowers on the bronze plaques along the West Hollywood AIDS Memorial Walk, honoring the memory of those lost. The city's commitment to supporting HIV/AIDS initiatives reflects its dedication to public awareness and education on this critical health issue.
