West Hollywood Activates Cooling Center Due to High Heat Advisory
The City of West Hollywood has announced the activation of a Cooling Center at Plummer Park in response to a Heat Advisory due to persistently high temperatures across Southern California. The Cooling Center will be available from September 4 to September 8, 2024, operating daily from 10 a. m. to 5 p. m.
It is located at the Senior Lounge within the Plummer Park Community Center, providing a refuge for residents during extreme heat events. In addition to offering shelter from the heat, the City provides complimentary transportation to the Cooling Center via its Cityline service, which is designed to be friendly and accessible, with shuttles running every 30 minutes. Officials emphasize the importance of taking precautions against heat-related health risks, particularly for children and pets, who are especially vulnerable during high temperatures. The City warns that temperatures inside parked vehicles can rise dangerously high, urging residents to never leave children or pets unattended in vehicles. Furthermore, residents are encouraged to avoid walking their pets on hot pavement to prevent injury.
