City of West Hollywood Presents "Body Politic" by Nancy Baker Cahill
The City of West Hollywood will launch "Body Politic," a groundbreaking two-part public artwork by Nancy Baker Cahill, starting October 1, 2024, as part of its Moving Image Media Art program. This exhibition is particularly timely as it coincides with the city's "Get Out the Vote" efforts ahead of the national election, making a statement on civic engagement. The centerpiece of the exhibition is a ten-minute video artwork, which will be showcased hourly on three prominent digital billboards along the iconic Sunset Strip until February 28, 2025. An artist's reception on October 4, 2024, will allow attendees to engage with Baker Cahill and her work, while a subsequent conversation on October 16 will delve deeper into the themes of the artwork. The augmented reality component will enhance the experience, allowing viewers to interact with the artwork through the 4th Wall app, a first for billboard art in this format.
"Body Politic" addresses critical topics such as body sovereignty, data rights, and voting rights, conveying a powerful message through abstract visuals and dance. The initiative highlights West Hollywood's commitment to supporting artists and promoting cultural dialogue in the community. This exhibition not only showcases local talent but also serves as a catalyst for civic engagement and awareness.
