The annual MLK Day event at Vashon Center for the Arts is set for January 20, 2025, from 1-3 p. m. , celebrating the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. with a focus on justice, education, and equality.

This free, family-friendly gathering will feature performances by renowned storyteller Eva Abram, who brings American history to life through her folktales, and Franchesska Berry, an accomplished dancer specializing in West African and African Diaspora cultures. The Vashon High School Wind Ensemble, directed by Britt Dahlgren, will perform iconic songs from the Civil Rights movement, enhancing the event's historical significance. Notably, chef Chantel Jackson will cater small bites for attendees, showcasing her acclaimed culinary skills through her company, Thyme Well Spent. The celebration also emphasizes community involvement, inviting attendees to donate unopened, non-perishable items to the Vashon Food Bank.
