Yaletown emergency services access
In a proactive move to enhance emergency access, the City of Vancouver is set to remove angled parking stalls on Mainland and Hamilton Streets in Yaletown. This initiative responds to concerns raised by Vancouver Fire Rescue Services regarding limited access for emergency vehicles. Through discussions with local businesses and a community information session, the city aims to balance parking needs with public safety. The new design will retain 117 parking spaces and potentially relocate some dumpsters to create more room. Alongside this, the speed limit will be reduced to 30 km/h, and increased parking enforcement will ensure compliance.
The trial is expected to roll out in early April 2018, with a comprehensive evaluation planned over the following year. If the trial proves successful, further improvements to sidewalk space for pedestrians and local displays may be explored. This initiative highlights the city's commitment to public safety while engaging the community in urban planning.
