Black Hills High School in line for new wrestling barn

Tumwater, WALocal News

The Tumwater School District Board has officially accepted a donation from Black Hills Wolves Wrestling for a new wrestling barn, a significant advancement for the Black Hills High School wrestling program. The proposed facility, valued at $225,000, will be a 4,400-square-foot building located behind Building B, designed to alleviate space constraints currently faced by the wrestling team. It will feature a 17-foot vaulted ceiling, electricity, and heating, making it suitable for year-round use. Importantly, the entire cost of design and construction will be covered by the nonprofit organization, ensuring that no Tumwater School District funds are utilized. However, the district will be responsible for utility costs once the barn is operational.

Ongoing discussions among board members underscore the need for further clarity on fundraising efforts and facility usage policies. The barn is intended for wrestling practices but may also serve community needs, including youth wrestling and team meetings. This initiative reflects the increasing demand for dedicated sports facilities in local schools, contributing positively to the community's athletic landscape.
