The Tokyo Metropolitan Government has unveiled the results of recent surveys assessing the involvement of Tokyo residents in sports activities, with key data collected in October and September 2023. The report shows that 66. 3% of residents aged 18 and older engage in sports at least once a week, reflecting a modest increase of 0. 4 percentage points since the last survey. Health maintenance and the desire to counteract a lack of exercise were identified as the primary motivators for participation.

Interestingly, the participation rate among individuals with impairments rose significantly by 11. 1 percentage points to 46. 3%, while the rate among younger individuals aged 7 to 17 reached 55. 4%. The report also notes a growing interest in Para sports, with 44.

3% of residents indicating they are either very or relatively interested, largely influenced by media exposure to Para sports events.
