Kyoto’s Kiyomizu-dera Temple is open till late for a special light-up this autumn

Kiyomizu-dera Temple, one of Kyoto's most revered landmarks, is preparing for its annual autumn light-up event, scheduled from November 18 to November 30. This event allows visitors to experience the temple in a new light, surrounded by the vibrant hues of autumn foliage. Typically open from 6 AM to 6 PM, the temple will extend its visiting hours until 9:30 PM during the event, with the last admission at 9 PM, giving guests ample time to enjoy the enchanting atmosphere. The illumination will not only enhance the temple's architectural beauty but will also feature a striking blue beam projected into the sky, symbolizing the compassion of Kannon, the goddess of mercy. Admission fees are set at ¥500 for adults and ¥200 for junior high and elementary students, making it accessible for families.

The light-up events are part of Kiyomizu-dera's seasonal celebrations, which also include similar events in spring and summer. This year’s autumn illumination promises to be a captivating experience for both locals and tourists alike, showcasing the temple's historical significance as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
