Tokyo Metropolitan Government’s multilingual hotline, now free of charge

Tokyo, TokyoLocal News

The Tokyo Metropolitan Government has made strides in supporting its non-Japanese population by launching the TMC Navi hotline, which is now free of charge thanks to a new toll-free number. This multilingual consultation service is designed to assist foreign residents in overcoming daily life challenges in Tokyo, such as opening bank accounts and obtaining mobile phones. Operating in 15 languages, including simple Japanese, the hotline allows for consultations of up to one hour. In addition to general inquiries, the hotline offers specialized assistance for visa-related matters and legal issues. A particular focus is placed on Ukrainian evacuees, who have access to a dedicated consultation center to aid their integration into life in Japan.

The overarching goal of TMC Navi is to alleviate feelings of isolation and provide a reliable source of information for those unfamiliar with the local environment. The hotline operates from Monday to Friday, excluding national holidays and the New Year holiday period. Residents and refugees alike are encouraged to utilize this valuable resource for support.
