Tampa Bay, FLLocal News

Gibsonton Drive in Riverview, Florida, will be closed for three weeks starting this weekend, significantly affecting local traffic patterns. The closure begins at midnight on Friday, with U. S. 301 also reduced to two lanes at the intersection, leading to detours through Riverview Drive, U. S.

41, and Symmes Road. The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) has indicated that the most considerable traffic disruptions will occur by Monday morning, urging drivers to plan their routes accordingly. FDOT spokesperson Kris Carson noted that the project aims to replace asphalt with more durable concrete, addressing the high volume of traffic, especially from trucks. This initiative is part of a broader effort to improve infrastructure in the region. Despite the closures, access to local businesses will remain open, allowing for continued commerce during construction.

Once this phase is completed, work will shift to the east side of U. S. 301 along Boyette Road, ensuring ongoing improvements in the area. Drivers are encouraged to remain vigilant and considerate of construction workers during this period.
