Man put on helmet, intentionally crashed into Tampa financial building, cops say

Tampa Bay, FLLocal News

In a bizarre series of events, 70-year-old Robert Beaty was arrested after intentionally crashing his pickup truck into the USAA building in Tampa Palms North. The confrontation began when guards denied him entry, leading Beaty to don a helmet before driving recklessly through the parking garage. He caused extensive damage, hitting multiple fences and ultimately colliding with a marked security SUV in an attempt to create an escape route. The estimated cost of property damage stands at $150,000, a significant blow to the financial institution. Fortunately, no injuries were reported, highlighting a somewhat fortunate outcome amid the chaos.

Beaty has been charged with four felonies, including two counts of aggravated battery, which underscores the seriousness of his actions. He is currently being held without bond at Orient Road Jail, pending further legal proceedings. Investigators do not believe Beaty has any prior affiliation with USAA, raising questions about his motives.
