After slightly more than a year in the position, Pasco County Fire Rescue Chief Tony Perez resigned Thursday. The county did not give Perez’s reason for leaving the department. Perez assumed leadership of Pasco County Fire Rescue on Aug. 1, 2023. He came out of retirement from Tampa Fire Rescue, where he spent 26 years, rising to become chief of operations and personnel chief.

At the time, Perez, who lives in Wesley Chapel, said he was excited about “coming home” to Pasco County, where he began his career as a firefighter and EMT in 1997 after retiring from professional baseball. Firefighting, he said, became his lifelong passion. Assistant Chief Ryan Guynn will serve as interim fire chief.
