In a tragic incident, 20-year-old Jaquelin Lopez Velasquez from Mulberry was arrested after a hit-and-run crash that resulted in the death of a bicyclist in Ruskin. The collision occurred on November 16 when Velasquez's red Dodge Charger struck a 19-year-old man who was riding his bike on State Road 674. Eyewitnesses and vehicle debris left at the scene allowed law enforcement to track down Velasquez, who later turned herself in after receiving a tip from CrimeStoppers. The victim, originally from Guatemala, was taken to an area hospital but unfortunately died from his injuries. Authorities have not yet released the victim's name, highlighting the ongoing investigation into the case.

Velasquez is currently facing charges related to leaving the scene of a crash that resulted in death, and she has been booked into the Hillsborough County Jail. This incident raises serious concerns about road safety for cyclists and the consequences of reckless driving in Florida. The community is left grieving as they await further developments in this tragic case.
