Pinellas County Commission Chair Kathleen Peters has taken a decisive step by requesting the Tampa Bay Rays to clarify their intentions regarding a proposed $1. 3 billion stadium deal by December 1. In a two-page letter sent to the team’s presidents, Peters emphasized the need for the Rays to officially confirm whether they wish to proceed with the agreement or terminate it. The request follows a previous letter from Auld and Silverman, in which they stated that the Rays could not continue under the current terms but are open to discussing new solutions in Tampa Bay. This development highlights ongoing uncertainties surrounding the stadium financing and the county's commitment to the project.
Peters worked closely with Assistant County Attorney Don Crowell to draft the letter, following Florida's public meeting laws. She expressed frustration over the lack of clarity in the Rays' verbal communications, stating that written confirmation is essential for moving forward. The deadline set by Peters could significantly influence the future of the stadium project and the Rays' future in Pinellas County. As the December 1 deadline approaches, stakeholders will be keenly watching for the Rays' response.
