The St. Petersburg Police Department has determined that three Pinellas County sheriff's deputies were justified in shooting Jeremy Reed during a domestic disturbance on November 8, 2024. The deputies—Jessee Creaser, Dylan Schultz, and Cpl. Stuart Kellman—responded to a call where Reed was reported to have threatened his family with a gun. Upon their arrival, they observed Reed running towards his wife and two teenage children while brandishing a firearm.
The investigation, part of the county's Use of Deadly Force Task Force, concluded that the deputies' actions were legally justified to protect the family. Reed was subsequently wounded in the shooting and arrested on aggravated assault charges. Chief Anthony Holloway publicly announced the findings, emphasizing the importance of transparency in such incidents. The results of the review reflect the ongoing scrutiny and protocols in place to investigate police use of force. This incident has reignited discussions surrounding law enforcement's response to domestic violence situations and the measures in place to ensure public safety.
