Jimmy Wayne Hammonds, popularly known as the "Monkey Whisperer," has been indicted once again, this time for animal trafficking charges related to the illegal sale of two common marmosets. A grand jury in Tampa charged Hammonds and his brother, Johnny D-Lane Hammonds, under the Lacey Act, which restricts the trade and possession of certain wildlife species. Allegedly, the brothers conspired to sell these miniature primates, which have a market value of over $350, between Florida and Georgia. This indictment comes after Hammonds previously made headlines for selling a legally protected primate to singer Chris Brown, indicating a troubling pattern in his dealings with exotic animals. Both men were arrested this week, but they were released on bail shortly after.

The case has reignited discussions about the regulation of exotic animal sales and the legal implications for individuals involved in such activities in Florida. Legal representation for Hammonds in this new case is uncertain, as his previous attorney was unaware of the new charges until contacted by a reporter. This ongoing situation underscores the complexities and challenges surrounding wildlife trafficking laws and enforcement in the state.
