The Pinellas School Board recently honored former superintendent Mike Grego by naming a new leadership center in Largo after him, acknowledging his decade-long contributions to the district. Under Grego's leadership, the district saw a remarkable 20% boost in high school graduation rates and initiatives aimed at closing achievement gaps among diverse student demographics. Board member Caprice Edmond praised his efforts, stating, “This is being built because of his work. ” The board also recognized retired educator Bette Ra Ivey for her dedication to early childhood education by naming a new early learning and child care center in Pinellas Park after her. Furthermore, the board announced the designation of the K-8 school formed by merging Walsingham and Southern Oak elementary schools as Walsingham Oaks K-8 School.
