Missing Plant City teen found in South Florida with ‘predator’ she met online: Investigators

Tampa Bay, FLLocal News

A missing teen from Plant City has been found safe, thanks to the efforts of law enforcement after she was lured away by 38-year-old Edward Rodriguez, who she met on social media. Authorities reported that Rodriguez convinced the girl to leave her home between 1 and 3 a. m. on a Saturday, taking her mother's phone to conceal her whereabouts. Amanda Granit, a spokesperson for the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office, described Rodriguez as a predator preying on young teenagers.

He was arrested in Broward County and faces serious charges, including lewd and lascivious molestation and interference with child custody. The incident serves as a stark reminder of the potential dangers associated with online interactions, particularly for young individuals. The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children emphasized the need for parents to monitor the platforms their children use. This case reflects broader concerns about child safety in the digital age.
