The Guida House, a cherished historic landmark in West Tampa, is poised for a much-anticipated rehabilitation project beginning next month. Built in the 1950s by George Guida Sr. , a notable civic leader and philanthropist, the house has long been a symbol of the community's rich history. Over the years, it has fallen into disrepair and is currently boarded up, yet plans are underway to breathe new life into this iconic structure. The City of Tampa is working closely with the Guida family and local historians to ensure that the restoration honors the house's unique architectural features, which include mid-century modern elements like Latina glass blocks.
The first phase of the rehabilitation will focus on re-roofing, scheduled to commence in October, with the entire project expected to be completed by 2027. City officials envision the restored house serving multiple functions, including as a venue for special events and as a space for organizational use. Dennis Fernandez, the Historic Preservation Manager for Tampa, expressed excitement about the project and the potential for the Guida House to once again become a vibrant part of the community. This initiative not only aims to preserve local history but also to enhance the neighborhood's infrastructure and cultural offerings.
