Tacoma Celebrates Earth Day With Community Planting Party at Revitalized McKinley Overlook on April 19
On April 19, Tacoma will host a community planting party at the revitalized McKinley Overlook to celebrate Earth Day, with activities running from 10 AM to 2 PM. This collaborative effort between the City of Tacoma and Pierce Conservation District invites volunteers to plant around 550 native plants in new garden beds. This initiative not only aims to restore urban wildlife habitat but also creates a vibrant green space for community enjoyment. The planting event is a culmination of the McKinley Hill Neighborhood Planning process, where residents shared their vision for the area. Council Member Sandesh Sadalge emphasized the importance of community collaboration, stating, "When community comes together, great things can happen.
" Participants will be able to explore a newly constructed walking path while enjoying panoramic views of the area. Those interested in volunteering are encouraged to sign up ahead of time to enhance the community's green footprint. This effort reflects a broader commitment to environmental sustainability and community resilience in Tacoma.
